Melvin decided to become an appraiser after having his own home appraised.
“I was looking for a new career. The inspection aspect appealed to me.”
After going through the training process, Melvin opened his own appraisal shop in 2003.
“I love the independence. I had previously been a manager at different stops in my career.”
A big reason for Melvin’s success as an appraiser has been his willingness to accommodate his clients’ schedules.
“I have done inspections on Sunday to meet the client’s needs.”
It’s small things like that which define professionalism for Melvin.
“I strive to always be on time for appointments too and keep my turn around times to a minimum.”
Melvin stays current on the latest, local real estate news as well.
“I live in Prince Georges County in Maryland. Right now, there are a couple of large developments underway with over 1,000 units each. They will include single-family homes, town homes, condominiums and apartments. There will also be hotels and retail stores within the developments.”
The market in Prince Georges has remained stable year over year.
“Current pricing has been steady with last year’s. The median home price is $425,000 and $235 per square foot.”
