Wendy’s career in real estate started in 1986.
“I became a realtor and worked as a sales associate for about a year. In 1987 I was presented with an opportunity to join a new and growing appraisal firm. I have serviced the southern counties of New Jersey my entire career.”
There are many reasons why Wendy enjoys being an appraiser.
“I love the flexibility of the job. Not just sitting behind a desk all day but also being on the road. Meeting new people (realtors/sellers/homeowners). And the ability to create your own schedule. I also appreciate that each appraisal is a new challenge and different from the last–no two reports are alike which keeps it interesting.”
For Wendy an important part of what she does is putting the homeowner/seller first.
“When scheduling inspections I try my best to accommodate the availability of the homeowner/seller. I understand that I am a representative of the mortgage company/AMC and want the homeowner/seller to have a positive experience.”
To survive and thrive in any career it takes a commitment to professionalism on a variety of levels.
“To me being professional is showing competence. It’s also about getting the job done well, meeting the expectations that your client has, and growing by keeping up with the changes and knowledge of the industry. There is always something new to learn and improve your skills.”
The counties that Wendy covers in Southern New Jersey have remained relatively stable over the last five years.
“There is a low percentage of new construction as most areas are established and highly developed. The new construction that is happening appears to be for the over 55 community.”
The overall market has seen a jump in the median home price though.
“The current median home price is $450,000. That’s an 8% increase vs. this time last year.”
