Matthew’s journey to becoming an appraiser began after years as a professional musician in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the surrounding region.
“I wanted a change of pace and spoke to a realtor friend about the real estate business. He said if he could do his career over again, he would’ve become an appraiser instead of a realtor.”
Inspired by that advice, Matthew researched the field, found a trainer, and completed the long process of education and training. He became state licensed in 2021 and earned his certification in 2024.
Matthew values the autonomy that comes with being an appraiser.
“Like my previous career as a musician, I enjoy having control over the quality of my work, the standards I set for my business, and the balance of family time.”
Flexibility is something Matthew prioritizes when working with homeowners.
“I recently rearranged my schedule so a homeowner could attend a friend’s retirement party. When you’re entering someone’s home, it’s important to accommodate their schedules – or their napping babies!”
For Matthew, professionalism comes down to two core principles: reliability and communication. “I believe in ‘saying what I mean’ and ‘meaning what I say.’ If I promise a report by a certain date, the lender can know with certainty it will be delivered on time. I also communicate as soon as I have information that needs to be relayed.”
