After 35 years in law enforcement, Teressa was ready to retire. As part of her retirement plan, she refinanced her home. When she did, she met a notary. She asked him what being a notary was all about. She was intrigued. After investigating further, she decided to become a notary. The notary that had assisted with refinancing her home…became her mentor.
“He has been a wonderful mentor. I have been doing notary work now for almost 5 years in New Mexico.”
So, what does Teressa love most about her second career?
“Meeting new people. The social interaction is wonderful. I go to nice houses, meet nice people, and they have nice pets! Being a notary doesn’t feel like work, either. I enjoy what I do and will continue to do so as long as this feeling of satisfaction remains!”
Patience and empathy are personality traits Teressa employs to help contribute to a seamless closing experience for her clients.
“Once, I was doing a reverse mortgage with signers that were not prepared for the amount of paperwork that was involved. It took a long time to complete, with multiple breaks required for them to stretch and exercise their hands. They were very appreciative of my understanding and willingness to help.”
For Teressa, there are many ways to exhibit professionalism while on the job.
“Getting the job done correctly. Going the extra mile when problems pop up. Taking the time during that first visit to get everything done correctly. And helping signers who are stressed, or don’t understand, to feel comfortable and at ease. I treat people the way I would want to be treated.”
